Seven Forest City Properties Receive ENERGY STAR or LEED Certifications
CLEVELAND, June 10, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Forest City Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: FCEA and FCEB) today announced that four of its apartment communities and one office building have earned ENERGY STAR certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, while two of its apartment communities have earned LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Four of the ENERGY STAR certifications took advantage of the EPA’s new multifamily certification program, which launched in September 2014. The newly certified LEED properties bring the company’s total up to 20, which includes the majority of the new properties the company has developed over the past several years.
“At Forest City, we are committed to proactively managing our buildings’ environmental footprints, including striving to make them energy efficient,” said David J. LaRue, president and chief executive officer. “These third-party certifications validate our sustainability-focused approach to development and management and help us demonstrate our ability to add value for residents, minimize environmental impacts and differentiate our communities. I congratulate the teams at these properties, along with our Energy and Sustainability Group, on achieving these certifications.”
The five newly certified ENERGY STAR properties are: Canton Towers, a 199-unit senior housing apartment community in Canton, Ohio; Ziegler Place, a 141-unit senior housing apartment community in Livonia, Mich.; Perrytown Place, a 231-unit apartment community in Pittsburgh; Frenchtown Place, a 151-unit senior housing apartment community in Monroe, Mich.; and Highland II, one of 11 buildings at the Glen Forest office park in Richmond, Va.
The two newly certified LEED properties are 2175 Market, an 88-unit apartment community in San Francisco (two buildings, both LEED Platinum), and Radian, a 240-unit apartment community in Boston (LEED Gold).
