Protecting Warfighters—and Their Mobile Devices—With Booz Allen’s Steve Rossero

In today’s technology environment, concerns about malware, ransomware, phishing, and data breaches aren’t just restricted to desktops and laptops. Due to increased usage and new vulnerabilities related to apps and WiFi, the threat environment has expanded to an organization’s mobile operations. 

In fact, cyberattacks targeting smartphones and mobile devices increased 50% from last year, according to research by Check Point, a security software provider. 

Steve Rossero, mobile security engineer with Booz Allen, has made a career out of protecting these devices.

Working at the intersection of cyber and mobile

Rossero currently supports a project for the Department of Defense focused on policies and security requirements for mobile devices and applications.

“I feel my work truly helps the DoD complete their missions more effectively and securely,” he said. Rossero’s interest in this career path started with the devices themselves. 

“I’ve always had a passion for mobile technology,” he said. “And once I realized I could make a career out of securing these devices and using them to solve my clients’ problems, I knew I wanted to do that at Booz Allen.”

Essential support against evolving threats

“Cybersecurity is one of the most exciting fields in the IT industry,” Rossero declared.

For defense clients, he explained, cybersecurity is integrated into every aspect of the mission. And across the cybersecurity landscape, there’s always something new to discover. 

“The threats are constantly evolving,” he said, “which means you constantly need to learn and grow as a consultant.”
