Microsoft Takes Carbon Accounting to a New Level

Microsoft has implemented a companywide system to charge each of its departments for the carbon emissions associated with their data centers, software development labs, offices, and employee travel. Is your company’s policy that embedded?
Microsoft has committed to being carbon neutral this year. Is your company’s goal that aggressive?
Please take a moment to think about this. Microsoft is charging its business units for the carbon emissions they are responsible for. The money that is generated will be used to fund internal efficiency and improvement projects, pay for renewable PPA’s, and buy carbon offsets and renewable energy credits.
There are lots of companies making great strides, but this is an impressive commitment from Microsoft. The multi-billion dollar global company has put its stake in the ground, recognizing the need to move quickly and decisively to address climate issues. One can assume that Microsoft put significant thought, research, and analysis into the decision to implement this program. We applaud the commitment and urge others to follow the company's lead.
