LA Galaxy to Celebrate Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night After Month-Long Support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Team’s support of “Kick Childhood Cancer Campaign” to culminate with Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night during Galaxy’s match on Saturday, Sept. 30 vs. Real Salt Lake, presented by Dannon
Septemeber 27, 2017 /3BL Media/ - AEG’s LA Galaxy will celebrate Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night Saturday, Sept. 30 at StubHub Center when the team hosts Real Salt Lake (7:30 p.m. PT; Spectrum SportsNet, Spectrum Deportes), honoring the Make-A-Wish® Greater Los Angeles as the official Community Partner of the Match. The match, presented by Dannon, during Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night will culminate a month of support from the LA Galaxy, in conjunction with MLS WORKS, of the 4th annual Kick Childhood Cancer Campaign, which encourages fans to “Go Gold” to raise awareness and funds during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
In honor of the Community Partner of the Match, the LA Galaxy Foundation will host 100 children and families at StubHub Center for the match. Specialty Make-A-Wish® t-shirts will also be sold at the LA Galaxy Foundation booths.
The Galaxy will also auction off the Kick Childhood Cancer warm-ups that players have been wearing throughout the month of September. All warm-ups will be autographed and available through for text to bid platform and link. Fans can text GALAXY to 52182 or go to http://www.galaxy.gesture.com to register and start bidding.
In advance of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night, the LA Galaxy Girls’ Academy will visit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles this Thursday, Sept. 28 from 4-6 p.m. PT. This visit will allow LA Galaxy Girls’ Academy athletes, who are in their inaugural month of play, to tour the hospital and volunteer with the Literally Healing Program, which uses books to lift the spirits of CHLA patients and their families.
As part of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night on Saturday at StubHub Center, the LA Galaxy match will also include the following initiatives to support:
- Commemorative gold adidas Nativo 2017 Official Match Ball will be used
- The LA Galaxy team captain will wear a Kick Childhood Cancer gold captain’s armband
- All Players and PRO referees will wear special edition Kick Childhood Cancer t-shirts during pre-game activities
- Players will wear a commemorative gold ribbon jersey patch
- Coaches and training staff will be provided with club specific Kick Childhood Cancer scarves
- Gold corner flags and goal nets will be featured throughout the month
In addition to Saturday’s Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night, the Galaxy implemented multiple initiatives in support of the effort of fighting childhood cancer during Galaxy games and dedicated community programming throughout this month.
Earlier this month, Galaxy supporters group Angel City Brigade held a blood drive at StubHub Center on Sept. 12 in support of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, encouraging fans and Galaxy staff to donate blood for CHLA.
In conjunction with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the LA Galaxy visited Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, with various players from LA Galaxy and LA Galaxy II spending time with patients. LA Galaxy players Brian Rowe, Daniel Steres, Jose Villarreal, Jon Kempin, Emmanuel Boateng, Nathan Smith and LA Galaxy II players Justin Dhillon, Bennett Sneddon, Ethan Zubak and Miguel Aguilar were on hand at CHLA to meet with patients as a part of the visit. Additionally, Alcatel, the LA Galaxy’s Official Smartphone and Tablet partner, donated 50 tablets and 25 smartphones to CHLA as Galaxy players delivered the gifts during the visit. Additionally, LA Galaxy II and the LA Galaxy Foundation hosted Pediatric Cancer Night in support of the Jessie Rees Foundation and all those battling pediatric cancer during the team’s match against Reno 1868 FC. At the game, the club, LA Galaxy Foundation and Jessie Rees Foundation honored Fredy, a young local boy battling Leukemia, currently in remission since being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in August 2016. Those in attendance at the match were encouraged to “Go Gold,” wearing gold clothing and accessories to the match. Additionally, the game was played with gold soccer nets and gold corner flags.
