KeyBank Offers Free Tax Preparation Services at Nine Super Refund Saturday Events on February 3
KeyBank and partner organizations will help eligible low- to moderate-income individuals and families take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit
CLEVELAND, January 30, 2018 /3BL Media/– KeyBank will host its annual Super Refund Saturday event on February 3, 2018, partnering with organizations in nine communities to provide free tax season and post-tax season support.
For 13 years on Super Refund Saturday, KeyBank employees have worked alongside volunteers from community organizations to provide free tax preparation services to those who need it most, helping low- to moderate-income individuals and families determine their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Along with the nine Super Refund Saturday events, KeyBank will provide tax preparation support for tax season in partnership with local organizations in an additional 13 communities.
Each year, thousands of qualifying Americans do not claim the EITC on their federal income tax returns, meaning billions of dollars in much-needed refunds goes unclaimed. Super Refund Saturday is a cost-effective way for tax filers to navigate the potentially confusing tax preparation process and ensure they are getting their full return.
“At KeyBank, our purpose is to help clients and communities thrive,” said Bruce Murphy, KeyCorp's Head of Corporate Responsibility. "KeyBank does that through a long-standing commitment to the neighborhoods where we live and work. Super Refund Saturday is one important way we help our neighbors thrive year-in and year-out. This year, we’re pleased to announce that we’re bringing this program to 22 of the communities we serve.”
The EITC is a refundable tax credit for low- to moderate-income individuals and families with eligible children who do not earn enough to file a tax return. Started in 1975, it has become one of the top anti-poverty programs. Nationwide during 2017, more than 25.8 million eligible workers and families received about $63.8 billion in EITC. (Source: IRS)
According to the IRS, to qualify for the EITC earned income must be less than:
- $48,340 ($53,930 if married filing jointly) with three or more qualifying children
- $45,007 ($50,597 if married filing jointly) with two or more qualifying children
- $39,617 ($45,207 if married filing jointly) with one or more qualifying child
- $15,010 ($20,600 if married filing jointly) with no qualifying children
According to the IRS the maximum Earned Income Tax Credit a tax filer can receive is:
- $6,318 with three or more qualifying children
- $5,616 with two qualifying children
- $3,400 with one qualifying child
- $510 with no qualifying children
If participating in Super Refund Saturday, income tax return filers should bring these documents:
- Valid photo ID
- Social Security card for themselves and each dependent
- W-2 Forms (reporting full-time wages)
- Previous year’s tax return
- 1099 Forms (reporting part-time work and interest income), if applicable
- Unemployment forms, if applicable
- Proof of childcare payments
- Other IRS forms, as appropriate
- Bank account information and bank routing number
In 2017, KeyBank assisted with the preparation of 802 filings, which resulted in a total of $1,718,252 in refunds, with more than half coming from EITC filings.
