Kaiser Permanente Leaders Among Diversity MBA Magazine’s Top 100 Under 50 List
OAKLAND, Calif. — Two Kaiser Permanente leaders have been named to Diversity MBA Magazine’s Top 100 Under 50 Diverse Executive Leaders list.
Susan Mullaney, MHA, vice president of hospital operations in Oregon and Washington, and John Vu, MPH, vice president of strategy in Community Benefit, Research and Health Policy, were recognized by the publication in the Executive Leaders category.
Diversity MBA Magazine, a quarterly publication that aims to serve the needs of multicultural professionals in corporate America as well as business students and entrepreneurs, will honor the Top 100 leaders in the publication’s summer 2013 edition.

Awardees will be honored at Diversity MBA Magazine’s sixth annual Business Leaders Forum and Awards Gala. The gala will be held Sept. 19-20 at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago.

Susan Mullaney, MHA
Susan Mullaney is vice president of hospital operations for Kaiser Permanente in Oregon and Washington, where she oversees operations at two hospitals, its networks and ambulatory surgery centers.
Mullaney began her career at Kaiser Permanente as a hospital administrator at the Sunnyside Medical Center near Portland, Ore., in 2008. In 2009, she oversaw the expansion of the facility and opening of the Kaiser Permanente Center for Heart and Vascular Care, which has scored in the top 12 to 15 percent of all U.S. heart centers and has earned a three-star rating — the highest possible — for quality from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Most recently, Mullaney led the grand opening of the Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center in Hillsboro, Ore. The facility is the organization’s first to earn Gold LEED certification for energy efficiency and environmentally friendly design.
Mullaney has a master’s degree in health care policy and management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and completed an administrative fellowship at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. She is a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program at Harvard Business School.
John Vu, MPH
John Vu is vice president, director of strategy and chief of staff at Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit, Research and Health Policy.
Vu is responsible for providing leadership in the development and implementation of key strategies to help deliver on Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to improving the health of communities, especially in addressing broader determinants of health for vulnerable populations and underserved areas. His focus is to ensure alignment and integration of major priorities and business plans across several functional areas, including care and coverage programs for low income people, partnerships with safety net providers, community health initiatives, environmental stewardship, research, health policy, diversity and international programs.
He has a master’s of public health and a bachelor of science in biochemistry and cell biology from University of California, San Diego. He is also a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program at Harvard Business School.
