Youth are Shaping the Vision for Life on a Greener Planet
Kaiser Permanente partners with Alliance for Climate Education to encourage the next generation of environmental leaders
Earth Day reminds us of the ongoing need for actions that improve both the environment and public health — whether it’s preserving the abundance of natural resources, reducing chemicals in our food and water supply, or coping with the extreme events driven by climate change.
In response to these complex challenges, the power of youth to co-create a greener planet is stronger than ever.
Case in point: Meet Jocelyn Galarza, an enthusiastic 11th grade student from North Salinas High School in central California.
“Our collective activism is really going to change the community and the climate in a positive way,” says Galarza.
She had just finished a day-long Youth Action Lab in Salinas, Calif. where she joined with other student leaders from her community to explore the intersections between climate change and health. The leadership and skill-building training, led by facilitators from Alliance for Climate Education, focused on how climate change is influencing food systems and the people who work in the farming communities in and around Salinas.
