Last fall, a local textile collective, sustainable cotton farmers, and the biggest brand in outdoor apparel came together around a singular goal: to produce a product – from seed to garment – from within 150 miles of the San Francisco Bay Area. The North Face partnered with artisans and growers to create the special edition “Backyard Hoodie” in an effort to pilot a local apparel design and production process. The North Face collaborated with partners Fibershed, Sally Fox at Foxfibre, and the Sustainable Cotton Project to go into its own “backyard” and work directly with local farmers and craftspeople to construct a unique garment with local roots. Join this session to find out the outcome as well as lessons learned by all parties in the process.
