Encana Recognized as North American Sustainability Leader
(3BL Media) Calgary, Alberta - September 20, 2012 - Encana Corporation (TSX, NYSE: ECA) has once again been recognized for our efforts to disclose and manage our environmental, economic and social sustainability performance. As a result of these efforts, Encana has been named to the Dow Jones Industrial North American Index. Encana was one of only 10 companies included on the North American Index from 49 oil and gas sector companies analyzed and scored 17 percent higher than the industry average.
The Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index is composed of North American sustainability leaders as identified by Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) through a corporate sustainability assessment. The index represents the top 20 percent of the largest 600 North American companies on the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index based on long-term economic, environmental and social criteria.
Established in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) are based on SAM’s internationally recognized leading Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) methodology. The Corporate Sustainability Assessment provides companies with crucial insights into their sustainability performance. It makes companies more aware of key sustainability issues to be considered in their corporate agenda.
“The DJSI is an assessment tool which allows Encana to be benchmarked against our peers on key environmental, social and economic sustainability indicators. These indicators are important to our investors,” says Stacey Schorr, Lead Corporate Responsibility. “Encana continues to value the insight that the DJSI provides and we would like to recognize all of the teams involved at Encana in providing information to support this important disclosure.”
