Encana Ranked Among World’s Most Ethical Large Companies
(3BL Media) March 19, 2012 - For the second year in a row, Encana has been ranked among the world's most ethical large companies by The Ethisphere Institute. Encana was named as one of four companies under the Energy and Utilities: Natural Gas category. The Ethisphere Institute, a leading international think-tank dedicated to the creation and advancement of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability, announced its sixth annual selection of the World’s Most Ethical Companies on March 15 in New York.
“We believe that our environmental, social, and corporate governance performance contributes to long-term value for our shareholder and helps us maintain our social license to operate,” explains Jeff Paulson, Encana’s Vice-President, Associate General Counsel & Corporate Secretary. “Sound corporate governance and ethics help us keep pace with the expectations of our stakeholders and ensure we operate in compliance with securities, environmental and other laws.”
The Ethisphere Institute received a record number of nominations and applications this year and the 2012 list is the largest since the award’s inception in 2007. In 2011, Encana was one of six companies named to the Energy & Utilities category.
“Each year the competition for World’s Most Ethical Companies intensifies as the number of nominations submitted for consideration grows,” explains Alex Brigham, Executive Director of Ethisphere. “This year’s winners know that a strong ethics program is a key component to a successful business model, and they continue to scrutinize their ethical standards to keep up with an ever-changing regulatory environment.”
Ethisphere reviewed nominations from companies in more than 100 countries and 36 industries. The methodology for the World’s Most Ethical Companies includes reviewing codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories; evaluating the investment in innovation and sustainable business practices; looking at activities designed to improve corporate citizenship; and studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers.
