DENVER, July 17, 2015 /3BL Media/ – CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL), a global communications company specializing in hosting cloud and IT services, has joined EcoMedia to sponsor OpenWorld Learning’s Summer Technology Camps, which started on June 8th and run through July 24th. CenturyLink’s support helps expand the nonprofit’s summer technology camps and strengthen science and technology education for Denver area students.
OpenWorld Learning (OWL) supports children’s success in school by tapping in to the power of digital technology and peer teaching to develop leadership and ignite a love of learning. Support from CenturyLink is providing 140 students with 12,600 hours of instruction and activities across three camp locations: Metropolitan State University of Denver, Jefferson High School and Hallett Elementary School.
At OpenWorld Learning’s Summer Technology Camps, kids aged 7-13 participate in various activities including a week-long exploration of a particular tech topic, where they use their imaginations to create unique projects.
“CenturyLink is proud to support programs such as those offered by OpenWorld Learning that have an impact on our young people,” said Vernon Irvin, CenturyLink Vice President of National Enterprise Sales. “We recognize the importance of growing our future workforce in the telecommunications field as well as providing young people with opportunities to grow and succeed.”
“We are grateful for the support of CenturyLink and CBS EcoMedia,” said Lea Ann Reitzig, CEO of OpenWorld Learning. “This funding will help our technology camps grow even more and create the learning experience of a lifetime for our students.”
To celebrate the joint support for OpenWorld Learning, a commemorative event was held on Friday, July 17, at the Metropolitan State University of Denver. Hosts of the event included CenturyLink Vice President of National Enterprise Sales, Vernon Irvin, OpenWorld Learning CEO, Lea Ann Reitzig, and Vice President and General Manager of KCNC TV, Walt DeHaven. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the camp and see the students show off their latest projects.
