‘Tis the Season! We’re Making a Sustainability Impact on Our World, so You Can Too
We always hear that sustainability is about preserving the world for the future generations, but do those generations understand how we are doing this? We know that our actions have a strong impact on our planet and on future generations. We have the responsibility to focus on making a better world for us and our children, while taking meaningful commitments, and Schneider Electric is committed to spread this message worldwide.

Sustainable Development Goals

Ahead of COP24, Schneider Electric Strengthens Its Commitment to Become Carbon Neutral by 2030
At a time when the latest IPCC report calls for urgent action to fight climate change, Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, is accelerating its contribution to meeting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. To mark the occasion of COP24 in Katowice (Poland), from December 3 to 14, 2018, Schneider Electric is strengthening its commitments to become carbon neutral by 2030 using solutions that will help accelerate the transition towards a low carbon economy.

How Business Can Play a Critical Role in Slowing Global Warming
First, the bad news: In October, the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released the latest version of its Special Report on Global Warning, which describes a dire future without immediate and far-reaching action to reduce greenhouse gases — difficult when global emissions continue to rise.

Environment

The Decisions We Make Today are Critical to Ensuring a Sustainable World Tomorrow
At Schneider, we believe that sustainability and innovation make the fight against climate change technologically possible today. And we know they can be an engine of economic growth and social inclusion. That’s why we’ve challenged ourselves and our network to rethink the future and achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, covering economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection. With the Schneider Sustainability Impact, we’re tracking our progress in a quarterly basis.

Energy

Renewable Energy Demand from Ambitious Multinational Companies Helping to Achieve Paris Climate Agreement Goals
Identifying Japan, Australia, Mexico, Turkey and Taiwan as growth hotspots, the RE100 Progress and Insights Annual Report “Moving To Truly Global Impact” shows a 41% increase in renewable electricity sourced by RE100 companies in 2017, compared to 2016. With the falling cost of renewables strengthening the business case for switching, 37 companies are already over 95% renewable, and six members reached their 100% goal for the first time. Schneider Electric is one of these companies who has committed to being powered by 80% renewables across all facilities by 2020 and 100% by 2030.

‘A LINE IN THE SAND’ – Global Commitment to Eliminate Plastic Pollution at the Source
A Global Commitment to eradicate plastic waste and pollution at the source has been signed by 250 organizations including many of the world’s largest packaging producers, brands, retailers and recyclers, as well as governments and NGOs. Signatories include companies representing 20% of all plastic packaging produced globally – they include well-known consumer businesses such as Danone; H&M group; L’Oréal; Mars, Incorporated; PepsiCo; The Coca- Cola Company; and Unilever; major packaging producers such as Amcor, plastics producers including Novamont and energy management specialist Schneider Electric.

Energy

Secure. Affordable. Responsible. With Renewables, Have All 3
Global institutions today face what is known as the energy “trilemma”—the need to balance energy security with energy that is both affordable and environmentally responsible. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) currently projects that world energy consumption will increase 28% by 2040. Simultaneously, the energy delivery system around the world is expected to undergo massive disruption in the forms of decentralization, digitization, and decarbonization.

Futureproofing energy supply has become a predominant goal for managing risk and resilience for a majority of companies.

An enormous opportunity exists for organizations with distributed energy load to act by acquiring renewables.

Research, Reports & Publications

Tracking Sustainability Commitments on a Quarterly Basis is Possible
For the fourth year, Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, announces its financial and non-financial results together for the third quarter of 2018. Each quarter, Schneider Electric publishes 21 indicators across 5 megatrends from the Schneider Sustainability Impact, measuring progress towards its ambitious sustainability commitments for 2018 to 2020, in line with the COP 21 and United Nations objectives. With a total score of 5.25 out of 10 at end-October 2018, the Group has exceeded its Schneider Sustainability Impact target of 5 out of 10 for the end of 2018.

3 Myths About Sustainability and Business
Before us lies a great opportunity — for the economy, for the health of our cities and businesses, and much more.

While the innovations of the Industrial Revolution introduced many of the practices that we now know contribute to climate change, the innovations of the digital revolution are delivering the solutions needed to create a more sustainable world. Dependence on finite resources created the problem; digitization and data are providing the answer. We are truly living in a world of data.

The digital revolution helps answering several of the major sustainability challenges, dispelling some of the lingering myths regarding sustainability and business growth.
