Buick and GMC Surprise Local Schools with Much-Needed Supplies for Students In Need
933 students from two local schools in Miami received school supplies through the national nonprofit Kids in Need Foundation
Jan. 30, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Buick and GMC have partnered with CBS EcoMedia Inc. through its innovative EducationAd advertising program to fund free backpacks filled with school supplies for Lakeview Elementary and Earlington Heights Elementary in Miami.
The donation, provided by Buick and GMC, will help take the burden off of families within the community who are unable to purchase school supplies and the teachers who, too often, purchase supplies with their own money. This generous donation will impact a total of 933 students from low-income families.
“Given proper school supplies, children are able to fully participate in the educational experiences with which they are presented,” said Brad Flaaen, Regional Director Buick GMC. “On behalf of our local Buick and GMC Dealers it is our pleasure to help equip the students at Lakeview Elementary School and Earlington Heights Elementary School. Furthermore, we are aware that teachers and principals report improved concentration, participation and behavior from students when they are properly equipped with supplies at school.”
To celebrate the partnership and donation, representatives from Buick and GMC participated in a special assembly where they personally distributed the backpacks to the students at Lakeview Elementary. Hosts from today’s event included Flaaen from Buick and GMC Southeast Region; Dave Smith, executive director, Kids in Need Foundation; and Paul Polizzotto, president and founder, CBS EcoMedia.
The funding for the supplies was a part of Buick and GMC’s EducationAd advertising on CBS, a program which enables advertisers to support community projects across the country, such as the distribution of school supplies -- including folders, notebooks, crayons, pens and pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, glue sticks, scissors, rulers and highlighters -- that the elementary students were surprised with today.
“This generous donation from Buick and GMC doesn’t just impact the 933 students, it will lessen the burden on families and teachers,” said Paul Polizzotto, founder and president of CBS EcoMedia. “Our public-private partnership business model exists to address some of the most urgent social issues of our time. Equipping students with the educational tools they need to succeed is a paramount issue we address with our EducationAd program.”
EcoMedia’s national non-profit partner, the Kids In Need Foundation, provided the school supplies and backpacks through its School Ready Supplies and Bulk Supplies Program. The Kids in Need Foundation’s mission is to ensure that every child is prepared to learn and succeed by providing free school supplies nationally to students most in need.
"We commend EcoMedia, Buick and GMC Dealers for understanding how important it is for students to have school supplies," said Dave Smith, executive director of the Kids In Need Foundation. "Having the school supplies means these students will not have to worry about how they will fully participate in classroom activities or how they will get their homework done. To eliminate this barrier for the kids and alleviate the burden teachers often assume of providing supplies to students out of their own pockets are the reasons the Kids In Need Foundation exists. But we can't do it without the support of our partners."
