Two Thought-Provoking Talks at Ecological Economists Event

Ecological economists are playing an increasingly important role in assessing the economic value of natural capital and ecosystem services. SCS Global Services’ Stowe Beam addressed the largely academic audience at the International Society for Ecological Economists conference in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, June 29^th with thought-provoking presentations on two topics requiring sound ecological accountability. In the first session, he spoke about the new national standard for sustainable agriculture (ANSI/LEO-4000) and its importance for benchmarking sustainable agriculture practice, specifications, and initiatives in the US. Later, he spoke on the need for rapid action to achieve climate stabilization at today’s temperature, and a roadmap forward based on IPCC Fifth Assessment Climate Accounting Protocols.  Documents from the Sustainable Agriculture and Climate presentations are available here.
