PT Freeport Indonesia, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Invests in Fishery Program to Empower Local Communities

August 18, 2017 /3BL Media/ -- PT Freeport Indonesia’s fishery program, in partnership with local governments and community leaders, supports Kamoro businesses near its area of operations in the Mimika Regency in the Papua Province.

The program includes technical training, small business loans, and the provision of refrigeration, storage, and transportation. The program reaches 38 villages on the Mimika coast and 7 village centers for buying and selling fish catches.

In addition to the fishery programs, there are also agricultural programs in the Mimika Regency, as well as coffee plantations in the villages of Aroanop, Tsinga and Banti. There are plans to develop a tea farm, coconut orchards and sago plantations as well. 

PT Freeport Indonesia invests in the future of the local community where it operates. From 1996 to 2016, the Freeport Partnership Fund for Community Development has invested more than $680 million in the local community.
