Everyone, every day, home safe and healthy
Our journey toward a workplace free of fatalities, injuries and illnesses focuses on two key areas – the systems and processes that detail our commitments and requirements, and the leadership and culture that motivate people to choose more healthy and safe choices.
Last year we conducted more than 275,000 safety interactions during the year, and identified critical controls and developed critical control management plans (CCMP) for the top five fatality risks and top three health risks in each region. Through these and other efforts Newmont continues its focus on improving our overall performance which is anchored in safe production.
One global, inclusive workforce
Inclusion is a core value and a strategic priority that we believe can help improve our business performance. Creating an environment where our employees can contribute, develop and work together to deliver our strategy is fundamental to our success. Our global strategic priorities continue to focus on enhancing the understanding of inclusion; increasing the representation of women, nationals and other diverse groups; and establishing community partnerships to support a diverse talent pipeline.
Across our four operating regions, we exceeded our internal targets for increasing female representation in senior leadership positions in Africa and met our targets in North America and Asia Pacific. Meanwhile, our internship program in Peru reached 50 percent female representation for the second year in a row, and national representation in our senior management positions increased in two of our regions – Ghana and Peru.
As part of our efforts to support an inclusive workforce, employees in our regions and at our corporate office have established 14 Business Resource Groups (BRGs) focused on the full spectrum of diversity and on nurturing an environment that welcomes diversity of thought, culture and experience.
