CLP Looks Ahead After Shining in Hong Kong’s Sustainability Arena
Another year of pushing CLP Group’s sustainability work to the next level has borne fruit, with industry recognition earned in Hong Kong and beyond.
At the CDP Hong Kong and South East Asia awards, CLP was named the best performing Hong Kong company with a score of A- for its water programmes in 2017. It was ranked top of the Hong Kong-based or listed companies which participated in the CDP survey. The assessment was based on the climate change, water and forest-related data received from 1,073 of the world’s largest companies.
Beyond Hong Kong, CLP clinched the best ESG communications award in the IR Magazine Awards – Greater China 2017. The magazine has honoured excellence in investor relations around the world for over 25 years.
Disclosure and engagement through reporting has always been a part of the company’s commitment. For the seventh successive year, CLP received the Sustainability and Social Responsibility Reporting Award in the Hang Seng Index category of the Best Corporate Governance Awards presented by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
The judges were impressed by CLP’s initiatives to identify material topics through consulting internal and external stakeholders and addressing their concerns in the Sustainability Report. “The materiality matrix makes it clear what risks the company is exposed to and investors are provided with an analysis of how those risks are being managed,” as highlighted in the Judges’ Report.
In the Hong Kong Management Association’s Best Annual Reports Awards, CLP was bestowed with the Sustainability Reporting Award in the general category for the sixth successive year since the award was introduced in 2012.
Over the course of 2017, more than 50 local and international awards went to CLP’s 2016 Sustainability Report, Annual Report and the online Snapshot. These achievements are testimony to CLP’s high-standard corporate communications in the region.
“We are extremely encouraged and humbled by the recognition of our Annual Report and Sustainability Report, simply because at CLP we see corporate reporting as essential to good communication with our stakeholders,” said Mr Richard Lancaster, Chief Executive Officer of CLP Holdings Limited.
In the inaugural Hong Kong Sustainability Award launched by the Hong Kong Management Association, CLP emerged as one of the winners in the large organisation category and a recipient of Special Recognition for Outstanding Sustainability Initiative. Attracting 106 entries in 2016/17, the award recognised organisations that demonstrated due consideration to the economic, social and environmental aspects of sustainability while achieving good business and organisational performance.
“Winning the awards is more than an incentive to move us forward. It has reinforced our confidence in collaborating with our internal and external stakeholders to pursue our sustainability strategy, refine sustainability reporting and continue enhancing our financial, environmental, social and governance performance,” said CLP Power Hong Kong Limited Managing Director Mr TK Chiang.
