Alexion's Employees in Japan Give Back to Senior Citizens
The current global pandemic has had a profound impact on many communities around the world, arguably the most profound being on the senior citizen community. During a recent day off, three of Alexion’s employees in Japan volunteered their time to virtually visit nursing home residents. Using Zoom to facilitate the visits, volunteers and seniors hit it off with jokes, laughs, and conversations about their hobbies and interests, as well as current events.
“At first, I was quite nervous because it was the first time that I’d met anyone living in a home for the elderly. The residents said they also were nervous initially because it was their first experience conversing via a PC (computer). I’m glad that I participated in this event, as we were all smiling and laughing,” recalled one of the volunteers.
The meetings ended with employees receiving heartfelt gratitude from the seniors and encouraging words like, “Good luck at work!” Residents of the nursing home have enthusiastically requested another meeting soon!
