To help consumers play their part in reducing textile waste, HanesBrands’ Australian homewares brand, Sheridan, has established a new partnership with BlockTexx, a global industry leader in textile resource recovery, for its in-store recycling program.
The emerging concepts of circular economy and resource-efficient design offer opportunities for developers. By embracing these approaches, they can reduce costs, de-risk material price volatility, improve residual values and appeal to a new generation of firms and employees for whom sustainability is a key priority.
Just a few years ago, apps were all the rage. In fact, there was an app for just about anything, from ones that let shoppers know if slaves were involved in making products to those that would point you towards companies that align with individual values. Yet, as technology continues to evolve, so too does the world of responsible purchasing. Now, one company is taking the idea of the conscious shopping app one step further, incorporating the technology right into the online shopping experience.

We need to change our relationship with water to ensure that communities and businesses can thrive today and tomorrow, and the circular economy must be part of the solution. Water can no longer be considered an inexpensive, “use and dispose” commodity but should be valued as a reusable asset and growth enabler. Yet today, less than three percent of wastewater is recycled. In the United States, industry reuses far less than ten percent of the fresh water used for industrial processes. The identification of waste in terms of resources, capacity, lifecycle and embedded value that is the building block of the circular economy, must also be fully applied to water cycles.
