A company’s decision to remove plastic straws from their kitchen doesn’t just affect their kitchen, it encourages straw production companies to come up with more environmentally friendly options and it cuts down on the company’s own footprint. Bacardi, for instance, has committed to using its platform to impact change within its own company and outside of it. With the launch of its #TheFutureDoesntSuck campaign the company aims to remove one billion single-use plastic straws by 2020 through a personal commitment to ban plastic straws at any Bacardi sponsored event, as well as a larger promise to curb unnecessary use of plastic in its supply chains. The company has promised to use its platform to spark collaborations that will promote environmental efforts across all industries.
Working alongside BACARDÍ® rum, who has collaborated with the award-winning non-profit organisation Lonely Whale to secure commitments from bars, restaurants and venues in a goal to remove 50 million single-use plastic straws from London this summer by asking them to become 100% single-use plastic straw-free, expert forecaster Jacqui Ma has looked at trend developments throughout the decades and revealed which trends she believes will cease to exist in the future, such as the use of plastic straws, a fashion that only developed in the 1980’s.
The Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) has accredited SCS Global Services (SCS), an internationally recognized third-party certification body, to provide Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO) services to food and beverage companies. GFCO, an industry program of GIG, helps manufacturers earn consumer confidence in their products and manufacturing facilities—keys to being successful in the expanding gluten-free market. The announcement highlights the global growth in the demand for certified gluten-free products, which is projected to reach $6.2 billion this year.
