Minnesota's General Mills and Hormel Buy Wind Power to Offset Energy Used to Make Food

General Mills signed a 15-year purchase agreement with Roaring Fork Wind, LLC in Texas. When coupled with its 2017 wind power agreement, the project will offset all of the electricity used at Golden Valley-based food maker’s owned U.S. facilities for the next decade and a half. It’s the company’s second and largest wind-power purchase agreement.

Hormel Foods Announces Construction of Solar Energy Project at its Swiss American Sausage Company Facility in California

Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE: HRL) and IGS Solar have started construction on a solar energy project at the Hormel Foods Swiss American Sausage Company facility in Lathrop, Calif. The project is slated for completion in July.

Smithfield Foods and RAE Partner to Produce Renewable Energy while Restoring Missouri’s Natural Environment

Smithfield Foods, Inc. and Roeslein Alternative Energy (RAE) have formed a joint venture called Monarch Bioenergy to produce renewable natural gas (RNG) across Smithfield’s hog farms in Missouri. This partnership converts manure collected from Smithfield farms into RNG, while simultaneously delivering ecological services and developing wildlife habitat. Once complete, all Smithfield company-owned finishing farms in Missouri will have the infrastructure to produce RNG, resulting in approximately 1.3 million dekatherms of RNG annually, which is the equivalent to eliminating 130,000 gasoline vehicles.

Green Mountain Energy Customers Avoid 9.9 Billion Pounds of Carbon Dioxide in 2018

In celebration of Earth Month, today Green Mountain Energy announced its customers prevented more than 9.9 billion pounds of carbon dioxide in 2018 by choosing cleaner electricity and carbon offset products – 1.3 billion more pounds than in 2017. For perspective, that’s like removing nearly one million cars from roadways or turning lights off in 10.5 million households for a year.
