Your Fabulous Green Wedding - What about the Flowers!

Whether or not you love flowers, chances are that they will be a part in your perfect wedding - bouquet, boutonnieres, decor or centerpieces. As such, in "greening" your wedding, you should consider ways to decrease the environmental impact of your flowers. Here are some simple tips for eco-friendly flowers that will be beautiful while treading lightly on the planet.

  • Pick from your own backyard - Local flowers from the region where your wedding is taking place have a smaller carbon footprint than those that have been imported.

  • Shop seasonally - Select from flowers that are currently in bloom. They require less refridgeration and will last longer.

  • Go organic - Flowers grown naturally with no pesticides or other harmful chemicals are better for you and the water system.

  • Use replantable flowers - You can use potted plants that have a life beyond a single day or can replant the flowers by keep the roots on and replacing them back to the ground from which they were harvest.

  • Contain yourself - There are a number of options for eco-friendly vases and containers for the flower arrangements including vintage, recycled, or biodegradable.
