In Your Community: AT&T Launches CBusStudentHack

Last week, AT&T and Franklin University launched the CBusStudentHack: Coding for Community, a 12 week programming contest for central Ohio high school students.

We’ve all heard about “hackathons” in our local communities, but the CBusStudentHack is different. Instead of working with the developer and tech communities, the CBusStudentHack will focus on providing Columbus area high school students with 21^st century skills via computer science education.  We also hope this competition will prepare the students for college and career readiness, solve real world problems and open the doors of opportunity and creativity, right here in Columbus, Ohio. 

At the kick-off event, more than 100 students from 9 central Ohio high schools had the opportunity to brainstorm project ideas, hear from community leaders, like Rev 1 Ventures, and learn from keynote speaker Chris Hamrick. Chris started his first company when he was 15 and founded Columbus-based creative agency Basecraft.

Over the next 11 weeks, students will develop apps that must be focused on improving health and wellness. Judges will examine the quality and execution of the innovations, as well as the creativity and potential impact on the central Ohio region.
