Xylem Employees and Partners Join Together for Annual Month of Service
Throughout October, Xylem invited employees and partners to participate in the fifth annual Global Month of Service. With the challenges posed by COVID-19, we focused more on individual and small group opportunities rather than large group outings. We are incredibly proud of the ways teams, partners and individuals came together to exemplify how we make a difference in the communities where we live and work.
During the campaign, more than 2,200 individuals from around the world generously donated more than 8,800 hours of volunteer service!
From the U.S. to the Middle East, employees were creative and innovative with their service:
- The Xylem Watermark Middle East team partnered with The Water Project to host a free webinar on Global Handwashing Day to discuss global responses to the pandemic, particularly as it relates to water supply and hygiene education in rural areas.
- A group in Langenhagen, Germany, got together with safety measures in place to refresh the campus’s lawn. The group replaced the water-intensive grass with a flower bed that will be planted with native wildflowers better suited for the dry climate.
- Employees in North America, inspired by ultra runner Courtney Dewaulter, worked together to complete a 400-mile walk/run to benefit a grant for the Colorado Trail Foundation. By helping to preserve natural trails, the grant is supporting future generations’ love of the great outdoors and the sustainability of wildlife.
- An employee from the North American Analytics team, Tara Andrews, committed to completing an act of service every day. From donating blood to passing out information on the importance of handwashing on Halloween, not one day was skipped!
This year we also incorporated our efforts to raise awareness for disaster preparedness into the Month of Service. For every person who built their own disaster preparedness kit or completed the virtual experience, Xylem donated a hygiene kit to our global partner Mercy Corps. Due to great participation across September and October, 882 hygiene kits are able to be donated in support of those facing the aftermath of natural disasters.
Xylem colleagues are working every day with our customers, NGO partners and other stakeholders to solve water for communities around the globe. This mission unites and inspires us, and we are grateful for the opportunities to do our part in addressing one of the greatest challenges of our time.
