Wichita Business Journal Reports: Via Christi to Expand Electronic Pharmacy Program with $30,000 Grant
Written by: Josh Heck, Reporter- Wichita Business Journal
Via Christi Health is expanding its ePharmacy program to additional areas in rural Kansas with the help of a $30,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation.
The program allows hospital physicians to place a prescription drug order electronically, then a member of Via Christi’s centralized team of pharmacists reviews the medication order before the medication is dispensed at the remote hospital.
The program, launched in 2008, reduces the chances of the wrong medication or dosage being given to a patient and also gives hospitals the ability to dispense new medications outside of their regular pharmacy hours.
The program was recognized in the Wichita Business Journal’s Health Care Heroes program in 2012.
