What is the Future for Corporate Responsibility?
(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) June 29, 2010 - The CR profession has stood strong in the face of the recession but where is corporate responsibility heading now – and what does the future hold for the CR professional?
Results of the 2010 Corporate Responsibility Salary Survey highlighted a notable increase in salaries, budgets and team sizes, illustrating the growing significance of CR in business today. This data supports the observations of specialist recruitment company Acre in relation to the CR job market and the advancement of CR up the corporate agenda.
Rufus Bullough, an Associate in Acre’s CR and Sustainability team states:
“In the past we saw a demand for CR professionals from technical, environmental and compliance backgrounds, for those with communication and stakeholder engagement experience and for senior managers who had marketing or profit and loss experience across an entire business unit or region.
Increasingly we are seeing CR and more specifically sustainability become a significant part of Corporate Strategy. It is not uncommon these days to find c-level executives dealing with the issues and opportunities of CR and sustainability. We are now sourcing high level executive candidates with business experience to fill senior level roles which report directly to, or in some cases, sit within a company’s board of Directors.
Companies are becoming aware of the opportunities to make money through new products and services and to save money through energy efficiency, making sustainability a core business strategy. We predict that there will be a continued growth in the number and seniority of jobs within CR and Sustainability and believe the position of Chief Sustainability Officer will be created within many organisations.”
As the global economy begins to emerge from the recession, signs indicate that CR has withstood the downturn and has returned in a stronger position with a brighter future for the professionals working within it.
