We Have the Power to End AIDS, TB and Malaria
Today's guest blog comes from Lilly's Vice President of Global Health Programs and Access, Dr. Evan Lee.
In global health, few things are more powerful than putting a face on a deadly disease. Lilly team members recently visited Fort Grey Hospital in East London, South Africa, where they met a 28-year-old mother of two named Phumla. She was being treated for drug-resistant TB, which had claimed her sister’s life just 48 hours prior. In a deeply moving conversation, Phumla admitted to being crushed but never gave up hope. “I want to be cured. I want to go home,” she insisted.
Governments can’t stop drug-resistant TB alone, and neither can the private sector. But as our Chairman and CEO, John Lechleiter, wrote in today's edition of Forbes.com, working together in partnership, progress is indeed possible. Smart investments will diminish the threat posed by drug-resistant TB – and one of the best options available today is the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.
