Walk to Support Susquehanna Service Dogs in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community
Harrisburg, Pa., April 18, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Lace up your sneakers and start warming up to support Susquehanna Service Dogs in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. SSD is one of 41 organizations participating in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community on May 18.
Once again, walkers will follow a 5K course across the Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) campus. The 5K starts at 9 a.m., followed by the One Mile Fun Walk at 9:15 a.m. The route is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers, and dogs are welcome. In fact, a dog watering station will be hosted by SSD for all participating dogs.
Because the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community is underwritten by Highmark Blue Shield, all of the money raised by walkers signed up to support SSD will go directly to SSD.
Susquehanna Service Dogs is encouraging the community to join the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community and raise money for SSD as individual walkers or as a team. Those unable to make it to the Walk on May 18 can be virtual walkers and donate to SSD.
Registration to participate in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community as a walker or a virtual walker can be done online.
Susquehanna Service Dogs is entirely funded by donations. SSD raises and trains service dogs, hearing dogs, balance dogs and facility dogs for men, women and children with physical and psychiatric disabilities. To date, SSD has placed more than 210 service dogs in Pennsylvania and the surrounding states. SSD is a program of Keystone Human Services Children & Family Services, a Harrisburg-based nonprofit, and is fully accredited by Assistance Dogs International.
