Voya Foundation Supports Teacher Excellence as Lead Sponsor of Annual Educators’ Conference
July 16, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), which has rebranded from ING U.S., served as lead sponsor of the second nationwide National Network of State Teachers of the Year (NNSTOY) conference, held July 9-12 in downtown Philadelphia. Hundreds of teachers, principals and school administrators gathered at the event to learn from one another about best practices, and to discuss challenges related to student success, teacher leadership, education policy and community relationships. Voya’s support for the conference was funded through the company’s charitable giving arm, the Voya Foundation.
As a central focus of the Foundation’s giving efforts, Voya supports organizations that help build an educated workforce and advance the academic well-being and financial literacy of children. The company believes an investment in education is an investment in the future of our economy, and it applauds the work of NNSTOY to foster collaboration and leadership among teachers across the country.
The National Network of State Teachers of the Year is a non-profit organization committed to improving student learning across the U.S. by advocating for teacher engagement in policy and establishing new and necessary structures to transform the teaching profession, such as career advancement models. Its members are State and National Teachers of the Year and finalists. The conference program featured distinguished guests including U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, who delivered the keynote address, and other notable education researchers and industry experts.
“We are most grateful to have found a corporate partner that understands the importance of educating and empowering teachers in order to improve student outcomes,” said NNSTOY CEO and Executive Director Katherine Bassett. “On behalf of our Board and members, I’d like to thank the Voya Foundation for making our second national conference a huge success. The Foundation’s generosity has enabled us to take our conference to the next level, providing learning and service opportunities that would have otherwise been unattainable.”
In addition to helping educators reach their own personal financial goals through its retirement business, Voya rewards standout teachers with awards and grants through programs such as National Teacher of the Year and the Unsung Heroes Awards.
As an industry leader and advocate for greater retirement readiness, Voya Financial is committed to delivering on its vision to be America’s Retirement CompanyTM and its mission to make a secure financial future possible — one person, one family, one institution at a time.
