Volunteers Plant Trees in Lynwood, Part of Effort to ‘Green’ South LA

A group of volunteers recently gathered on a sunny day in Lynwood, all with the same mission: to help beautify and improve the local environment by planting trees.

Wearing bright yellow volunteer shirts, dozens of Edison International employees, along with their friends and families, partnered with the nonprofit TreePeople to plant 20 trees at Yvonne Burke-John D. Ham Park in Lynwood.

The work is part of TreePeople’s Green Lynwood project, an effort to add more trees in southeast Los Angeles neighborhoods to help improve the local environment by creating more green canopies and cleaning the air.

Edison International, parent company of Southern California Edison, recently provided a $40,000 grant to TreePeople to help fund the Green Lynwood project that will plant 50 trees over an 18-month period.

“At SCE, giving back to the community we serve is who we are and what we do,” said Lisa Woon, SCE principal manager of Corporate Philanthropy. “Our partnership with TreePeople is part of our commitment to help improve the quality of life in the communities we serve and create a clean energy future.”
