Volkswagen Group Renews Green Alliance

January 22, 2013 /3BL Media/ - The Volkswagen Group and Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V. (NABU) are extending and intensifying their successful cooperation. Europe’s largest automaker and Germany’s largest environmental association have already been strategic partners in the field of environmental protection and sustainability for 13 years and have agreed to extend their cooperation at least until 2015. This year, both parties intend to strengthen their commitment to the more economical use of energy and resources as well as the protection of moorland, as a carbon dioxide store, and biotopes.

Cooperation between Volkswagen and NABU had already been lauded by the German government and the EU Commission as a “best practice” in sustainability management and was also named as an exemplary case of public sponsoring in 2011. “With such diverse types of cooperation as advice on sustainability, political dialogue and involvement campaigns as well as product innovations and sponsoring, our cooperation has gained unique scope and depth,” said Dr. Thomas Steg, Head of External Relations at Volkswagen, who is coordinating the various projects. NABU Chairman Leif Miller commented: “Volkswagen committed itself to compliance with the carbon dioxide legislation of the European Union earlier and more consistently than any other automaker. This clearly underlines Volkswagen’s objective of becoming not only the largest automaker in the world but also the leading automaker in environmental terms by 2018. NABU is proud to have played a decisive role in developing this objective.”
