Volkswagen Group of America Employees Clean up National Mall After Independence Day Festivities
Company provides 2014 Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid to aid the Trust for the National Mall in clean-up and volunteer day activities
Herndon, VA, July 7, 2014 /3BL Media/ — Volkswagen Group of America (VWGoA) , Inc. volunteered more than 250 hours of service today to help clean up the National Mall in Washington, D.C., following the annual Independence Day celebration.
In addition to the employee day of service, VWGoA also provided a 2014 Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid to support the Trust for the National Mall in its ongoing clean-up and volunteer activities.
The 2014 Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid, wrapped with the Trust for the National Mall’s logo, will be used by the organization to further its mission of raising awareness and providing hands-on support for the continued restoration of America’s Front Yard. The vehicle will be provided to the Trust for its use for the remainder of Volkswagen’s sponsorship.
“Volkswagen made a long-term commitment to help restore and preserve the National Mall, and this is a great way to get our employees, and our vehicles, involved in keeping the national treasure beautiful,” said Michael Horn, president and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. “As a local company, we are especially proud to participate in the massive clean-up effort that follows one of America’s biggest and best Fourth of July celebrations.”
Throughout the day, Volkswagen employee volunteers participated in activities such as painting chain fences and benches near the Washington Monument, and cleaning up debris and pulling weeds around the nearby lake at Constitution Gardens.
“Today’s contribution demonstrates the deep level of commitment Volkswagen has for restoring and improving this iconic park. Above and beyond its generous financial donation, the company and its employees are leading the way by lending valuable time and resources to this historic effort,” said Caroline Cunningham, president of the Trust for the National Mall.
In May 2013, Volkswagen announced a $10 million gift to the Trust for the National Mall, the official non-profit partner of the National Park Service, to help advance its efforts to preserve and protect America’s most visited national park. The donation, which is being granted over a five-year period, will support various components of the National Mall Plan, including the redesign and restoration of Constitution Gardens and the Washington Monument Grounds at Sylvan Theater.
Volkswagen Group of America encourages employees nationwide to participate in community service and volunteer efforts through its internal “Get Involved” campaign, which includes special incentives such as paid time off to volunteer and company matching for charitable donations.
