Verizon Singapore Lauded for Its Sustainability Efforts
(3BL Media) Singapore - May 25, 2012 - Verizon Singapore has been awarded the BCA Green Mark GoldPlus Award in recognition of the eco-friendly design and sustainable best practices of the company’s Singapore office. The award recognizes companies’ achievements in environmental sustainability as part of their overall corporate social responsibility efforts.
Verizon’s Singapore office fulfilled several criteria, including energy and water efficiency, management and operational sustainability, and indoor environmental quality.
Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority launched the BCA Green Mark Scheme in 2005 to encourage the local construction industry and real estate sector to develop more environmentally friendly buildings. Buildings are evaluated for their environmental impact and energy performance.
Andrew Dobbins, Verizon’s Asia-Pacific group vice president, accepted the award from BCA’s deputy chairman, Er Lee Chuan Seng, at the BCA Awards ceremony on Thursday (May 24).
Dobbins said: “Verizon believes very strongly that good business practice is intrinsically linked with sustainability, and we work very hard to practice what we preach, in terms of our internal operations and the services we offer our customers. Sustainable energy use is a key focus area for us across the business, and we continue to optimize our networks, our buildings and our resources as we strive for best practice. This award is a welcome recognition of our ongoing efforts in this area.”
In March, Verizon announced plans to cut its CO2 intensity by half by 2020, as part of the company’s broad sustainability efforts. Verizon’s first combined annual and corporate responsibility report is available at http://responsibility.verizon.com.
