Verizon Foundation to Present Trident Area Agency on Aging with $20,000 Grant Award
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C., November 13, 2013 /3BL Media/ - On Thursday, November 14, 2013, the Verizon Foundation will present the Trident Area Agency on Aging with funds received from a $20,000 grant. The presentation ceremony will be held at the Felix Davis Community Center (4800 Park Circle in North Charleston) and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Lieutenant Governor Glenn McConnell will attend the event, which will also highlight November as National Family Caregiving Month.
"Verizon's $20,000 grant will help support Connecting Caregivers, a secure, comprehensive online resource which will provide members with access to discussion forums, health education topics, training tools, and bi-weekly virtual support groups for caregivers via the Trident Area Agency on Aging's website," says Woody Simmons, Vice President of Government Affairs at Verizon.
Trident Area Agency on Aging is a non-profit organization that provides assistance, advocacy, and answers related to aging for those who live in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties. In our state alone, it is estimated that approximately 770,000 South Carolinians are serving as unpaid family caregivers. The estimated economic value of this unpaid care to South Carolina is over $7.4 billion annually.
"This type of community involvement is what the Office on Aging encourages, and I applaud the efforts of the Verizon Foundation for taking action, giving back to the community, and improving the quality of life for these residents," remarks Lieutenant Governor McConnell. "It's incredibly uplifting to know that we're able to unite the caregiving community in the Trident area by providing so many resources that are accessible through one central website."
