United Airlines (NYSE: UAL) has launched a new sustainable supply chain initiative to reinforce its commitment to supporting the environment. UA is the largest airline in the world in terms of passenger kilometers flown, and has advocated environmental procedures for a long time. The new initiative is a part of its wider responsibility to lead the aviation industry's understanding and addressing of the environmental concerns.

The initiative includes a complete overview of the environmental considerations of UA's suppliers with an aim to fortify their relationships and improve education on this issue. The airline will review each of its suppliers and conduct thorough evaluations of their eco programs. The results will be based in relation to the risk of environmental damage within each supplier's respective industry.

UA will also strive to work in close coordination with all its supply chain partners to find solutions and improve efficiency measures in order to enhance sustainability across its entire network. The airline will also work further down the line towards updated expectations and targets across the company and its key suppliers with an aim to move ahead on an even footing.
