Introducing the Young SDG Innovators Programme

This month, the UN Global Compact launched two programmes to engage and recognize young professionals in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. The Young SDG Innovators Programme was kicked off by Global Compact Network Denmark and will be implemented by Global Compact Local Networks in nearly a dozen countries this year. It will create a global network of future business leaders equipped to run tomorrow's most sustainable companies. Also announced was the annual search for UN Global Compact SDG Pioneers — business leaders who are using business as a force for good. The 2019 SDG Pioneers programme will start its search at the national level before going global and recognizing at least five young professionals during the UN General Assembly. Read more »

UN Global Compact CEO & Executive Director Lise Kingo sat down with Bloomberg TV anchor Ramy Inocencio to discuss how the Sustainable Development Goals present companies with a North Star for shaping their sustainability strategies and for turning risks into opportunities. Landmark climate report triggers call for increased ambition

After a sweeping report from the world’s top climate scientists revealed the threshold for preventing catastrophic climate change is 1.5°C, the Science Based Targets initiative is urging companies to scale up their efforts to mitigate global temperature rise. The report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) highlights the stark difference between 1.5°C and 2.0°C of warming, and calls for a economic transformation the likes of which have “no documented historic precedent.” In response, the Science Based Targets initiative announced new updates to support business to raise their ambition, and set targets in line with a 1.5°C ambition — see why it’s better for business, too »
