U.K. Child Poverty Remains Unchanged in the Fifth Richest Country in the World

Sadly, all types of people live in poverty in different parts of the world, including those living in advanced economies. Life changes such as unemployment, illness or family separation can happen to us all. Shifts in the cost of living, especially higher prices in essentials such as food and fuel, affect most people. Poverty isn’t something that happens to others—it’s something that can happen to almost anyone. Latest figures released in the U.K. from the Department for Work and Pensions shows the number of children classed as living in relative poverty remains at 2.3 million, which shows the proportion affected - almost one in six - was unchanged from 2011-12 to 2013-14. While these figures have not increased, these statistics are uncomfortable to these children living in the fifth richest country in the world, who are still having to suffer the consequences of poverty.
