Twin Falls’ Lincoln Elementary Receives a Grant from Recyclebank and Coca-Cola Live Positively for Green Schools Program

(3BL Media) Twin Falls, ID - April 19, 2012 - The City of Twin Falls announced that Lincoln Elementary reached its fundraising goal and received a grant from the Recyclebank Green Schools program, which awards schools grant money for unique student projects that will green their classrooms and communities. Representatives from program partners including Greg Lanting, Mayor of Twin Falls, Josh Brown and Les Reitz, PSI-Waste Connections, and Recyclebank presented the school with a check to fund its green school project, a school garden. The ceremony was held at Lincoln Elementary.

Schools across the country submitted green project proposals to Recyclebank® in order to participate in the Green Schools program. Recyclebank members donated their points to help fund the schools’ projects, and Recyclebank matched member point donations dollar-for-dollar. A critical program partner is Coca-Cola Live Positively, who helped schools across the U.S. meet their target grant goal and make their green project ideas a reality.

What:

Check presentation ceremony on April 18, 2012, 11:30am hosted by City of Twin Falls, PSI and Recyclebank, presented Lincoln     Elementary with a check of $2,500 for their participation in the Recyclebank Green Schools program. Lincoln will use its grant to plant a school garden in an area of the school that has some unused space and is protected from unwanted visitors. They’ll create a composting system and also build a greenhouse, with irrigation, that will allow students to learn about planting, composting and starting seedlings. This project will use lunchroom scraps by turning them into compost. There will be garden parties throughout the growing season. Lincoln will make compost available for neighbors who want to start their own gardens, and students will be encouraged to adopt a neighbor and assist them in tilling and planting in the spring.
