Being a DetermiNation athlete has a very special meaning for me.  I am sure a majority of our athletes feel this way when they get involved with our team.  We are a group of people who are determined to beat cancer.  My story is sadly, not unique, but it does embody why being a DetermiNation athlete is such an amazing experience and on the eve of the Broad Street 10-miler in Philadelphia, where we will have over 600 athletes running to beat cancer, I have decided to share my story.

I’ll never forget the day my life changed.  May 11, 2009.  Exactly 4 months and 12 days before my 30th birthday.  The day I was diagnosed with Stage IIIA cervical cancer.  When I woke up that morning I didn’t know at all that it would be the day that forever defined me.  Not just as someone who would have a link with cancer for the rest of their life but a day that provided me with a concrete definition of who I was as a person.  A definition of what it means to have determination, will and ultimately the inner fortitude to get through anything.
