Time Warner Cable Green Teams Mark One Year Anniversary
Employees Get Out in Communities To Make A Green Difference

Here at Time Warner Cable (TWC), I lead our enterprise-wide “Green Teams,” overseeing 15 employee groups that help the company raise environmental awareness, create operational efficiencies, and support local environmental organizations. During the month of April we celebrated our one-year anniversary of the Green Teams with an Earth Month celebration. Our Green Teams led the way with activities for employees in their local offices including:
- Hosting Green Fairs with local environmental organizations, energy companies, etc.
- Organizing employee volunteers in a community project around Earth Day
- Raising awareness among employees about the importance of reducing the consumption of paper, Styrofoam or paper cups, plastic utensils, etc.
- Providing an E-Cycling collection at office locations
- Demonstrating the importance of reusing items and offering employees the opportunity to donate clothes and/or small household items for a local community partner
During Earth Month 2015, we also took the opportunity to spotlight how some of these local groups have helped make their offices and communities more eco-friendly since launching in April 2014:
- Our Columbia, SC Green Team is supporting recycling efforts and also out in the community doing good work through the “Adopt-A-Highway” program. We’ve captured their efforts in a video featuring Green Team Leader, Shawn Edwards.
- In Austin, TX, team members were invited to judge 30- second Public Service Announcements (PSAs) created by students at Central Texas high schools to raise awareness of the positive actions individuals can take to reduce ground-level ozone in Central Texas. The winning PSA aired on TWC News during April.
- The Andover, MA Green Team has taken on a recycling project at their main office location. Together, they've implemented single stream recycling for paper, glass and plastic. They've also adjusted the schedule of overhead lighting in their office to sync better with staff schedules.
- Throughout our locations, we're helping employees get their caffeine kick without causing unnecessary waste. Albany employees who used to be devotees of the K-Cup system have transitioned to the more eco-friendly Keurig carafe system (some even repurpose the filter as seed starters in their garden!). And, Wisconsin employees are moving away from disposable coffee cups, and towards reusable mugs.
