Staying cyber safe and keeping information secure at work and at home
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and Tetra Tech is proud to be a cybersecurity champion and support this important online safety and education initiative. The cybersecurity and digital privacy of our employees and customers is vital to our operations. We invite you to #BeCyberSmart today and every day by joining us throughout October as we share proactive ways to stay safe online to protect yourself, your business, and your family.
Cybercrime is rapidly increasing, but not everyone is aware of this. The estimated cost of global cybercrime is expected to increase to $1.5 trillion this year worldwide. No one is immune to being targeted by cybercriminals, and victims include individuals of all ages to businesses of all sizes. Victims face heavy financial costs to recover from a breach that compromised their devices, data, or identities. Businesses face financial costs associated with finding and repairing the vulnerability and mitigating any damage that occurred.
While many people are getting better at recognizing phishing attempts, the range of tools and techniques used by cybercriminals is increasing beyond just simple phishing. The good news is that you also can learn more ways to protect yourself against even the most sophisticated attempts. This year’s theme emphasizes personal accountability and stresses the importance of taking proactive steps to enhance cybersecurity at home and in the workplace. Throughout October, we will share tips to help you:
- Own IT: Understand more about the devices and applications you use every day to help keep you and your information secure
- Secure IT: Learn about security features available on the equipment and software you use to protect against cyberattacks
- Protect IT: Be familiar with the networks you connect to and routinely check privacy settings to help protect your privacy and reduce cybercrimes
