Tetra Tech Receives Industry Awards from Environmental Business Journal
In January 2017, Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) recognized Tetra Tech with three industry awards for the company’s work during 2016: Business Achievement—Large Firms, Project Merit, and Technology Merit. EBI Inc. will present the annual EBJ awards for outstanding businesses at its Environmental Industry Summit XV in San Diego, California, on March 22, 2017. Tetra Tech also will receive a Climate Change Business Journal Business Achievement Award at the summit.
Tetra Tech received EBJ’s Gold Medal in the Large Business category (companies above $1 billion in annual revenues) for its strong financial performance during 2016. EBJ noted that, as the company celebrated its 50th Anniversary, Tetra Tech “grew gross revenue more than 12% to $2.6 billion; backlog increased 25% to a record $2.4 billion. Performance was driven by broad-based contract wins, including growth in U.S. federal, state, and local and international development markets. In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2016 alone, Tetra Tech added more than $1 billion in contract capacity with the U.S. Department of Energy, Army Corps of Engineers, Navy, and Agency for International Development, bringing the company’s total contract capacity to more than $14 billion. With the acquisition of Coffey in January 2016, Tetra Tech added the Australian [Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade] and UK Aid [Department for International Development] agencies as first-time clients and greatly expanded its presence in Australia and Asia Pacific. In March 2016, Tetra Tech advanced its smart water strategy with the acquisition of INDUS Corporation, a technology firm focused on water data analytics.”
Tetra Tech received an EBJ Project Merit award in the Clean Power category for its support of the Power Africa Transaction and Reforms Program (PATRP). The U.S. government-led Power Africa initiative aims to increase the number of people who have access to power throughout sub-Saharan Africa, where approximately 600 million people lack access to electricity. Tetra Tech is supporting the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) under PATRP to provide technical assistance, capacity building, and financial transaction support services to help accomplish Power Africa’s goals of adding more than 30,000 megawatts (MW) of cleaner, more efficient electricity generation in the region. Through the end of 2016, PATRP facilitated bringing more than 1,500 MW of power generation projects to financial close in the region and helped develop a pipeline of more than 140 active Power Africa transactions, representing nearly 20,000 MW of potential generation capacity. Tetra Tech developed an innovative mobile app and web-based Power Africa Tracking Tool that provides real-time tracking of power transactions. Read more about Tetra Tech’s work on PATRP here.
EBJ recognized Tetra Tech with a Technology Merit award in the Water category for its implementation of innovative stormwater management in Lakewood, California, during 2016. The stormwater capture project uses smart systems to improve water quality and meet irrigation needs in the drought-stricken region. Following treatment, water will be conveyed into a storage and infiltration facility and ultimately used to meet the 9.5-million-gallon annual irrigation requirements of the city’s Bolivar Park. The park’s landscaping is currently irrigated with potable water. Tetra Tech used real-time controls to improve the system’s capacity, including sensors in the underground storage facility that measure the water level in the storage tank as well as within the infiltration chamber. The system uses real-time National Weather Service data to assess options for capture and storage capacity when precipitation is predicted. Learn more about the project and view a video here.
