TeamCITGO and Habitat for Humanity Build Home for Corpus Christi Family in Need

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, March 9, 2015 /3BL Media/ – A Corpus Christi family in need came home to a brand new house, thanks to the efforts of TeamCITGO, the Corpus Christi Housing Opportunity Committee and Habitat for Humanity – Corpus Christi. The organizations came together to construct a home for a Corpus Christi family earlier this year. 

A 2015 Homeless Count and Characteristics Survey by the Corpus Christi Homeless Issues Partnership found that of 650 homeless citizens surveyed in Corpus Christi, more than 25 percent are veterans and nearly 20 percent are children. A new home can make a life-changing difference to Corpus Christi’s most vulnerable residents, and Habitat for Humanity – Corpus Christi offers a hand up to many of them. TeamCITGO, an employee-driven volunteer group at the CITGO Corpus Christi Refinery, has collaborated with Habitat for Humanity – Corpus Christi for the past four years, working on home-building projects for neighbors in need four times annually. 

“Habitat for Humanity is committed to solving the global housing crisis and helping the 48.5 million U.S. citizens currently living in poverty. We are grateful to have such a wonderful corporate partner in CITGO to help those in need in the Corpus Christi area,” said Habitat for Humanity – Corpus Christi Executive Director Barbara Sweeney. “Proceeds from the Building Dreams Together fundraiser will provide a Corpus Christi family with a truly wonderful gift: their own place to live and call home.”

As part of an effort to improve the well-being of the communities in which CITGO operates, Team CITGO supports initiatives that improve commerce, economic stability and community development in Corpus Christi with community partners such as Habitat for Humanity – Corpus Christi. In 2015, Team CITGO helped the organization reach a crucial milestone: building the 50th Habitat for Humanity home in Corpus Christi.

In 2015, Corpus Christi Refinery employees donated more than 2,962 hours of service to local non-profit organizations.”
