Stacy’s Pita Chips is Funding Microbusinesses through Whole Planet Foundation
Stacy’s Pita Chips is a repeat annual donor to Whole Planet Foundation in order to make a difference for the world’s poorest people who are ready to lift up themselves and their families through microcredit and the chance to start or expand a business. Stacy’s Pita Chips was founded by a woman entrepreneur, so the brand is inspired to provide opportunities for other women in the United States and around the globe. Eighty-eight percent of microcredit clients supported by Whole Planet Foundation are women, since women are the most marginalized from traditional financial systems.
Through a network of microfinance partners around the globe, Whole Planet Foundation funds microcredit loans which are small loans - the current average first loan size supported by Whole Planet Foundation is $176, with no formal collateral or formal contract – provided to underserved entrepreneurs who want to generate income for themselves and their families through business.
Stacy’s Pita Chips has doubled their support and joined the Supplier Alliance for Microcredit, pledging $50,000 in 2020. Watch this video to see Lisa Honeycutt, Customer Management – Director of Sales for Stacy’s Pita Chips in South Africa in September 2019, traveling with Whole Planet Foundation to meet microcredit clients of our microfinance partner Small Enterprise Foundation (SEF).
“This is my first time to be in the field with Whole Planet Foundation. It is really exciting to see where that money is actually going and how it is impacting women,” said Lisa Honeycutt. “We went first to a group meeting….everybody sat down and it was very business and formal, which I really appreciate because you could tell that everybody took it very seriously. I was blown away at how there was so much accountability between not only the group of women together but also accountability for them to the facilitators and to the branch managers. It was so amazing to see not only the accountability but also the education. It was just very empowering and an amazing experience to see what you can do if you come together and truly work towards pulling women out of poverty, on their own. A female entrepreneur on any level, I don’t care if it’s at Stacy’s level or at Hona’s level today, the woman we met that does the maize….it all just is giving back to your family and to your community. Stacy’s….very firmly believes in female entrepreneurship.”
Whole Planet Foundation’s global impact has funded 4 million microloans thanks to supplier donors – like Stacy’s Pita Chips - who have contributed more than $14 million for poverty alleviation.
