Social Equity Roundtable Pushes for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Built Environment
Black & Veatch has put its stamp on another effort to further diversity, equity & inclusion (DE&I) in the built environment. An article published by HPAC Engineering discusses the recent executive Social Equity Roundtable brought forth by the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS).
Convened in late July, the meeting featured dozens of leaders collaborating to expand DE&I, including the signing of a CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion pledge by 2,000 CEOS. Among the signatories from engineering and construction is the CEO of Black & Veatch, Steven L. Edwards.
Black & Veatch continues to invest deeply in DE&I efforts, promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace through various programs, including its Employee Resource Groups. The company has demonstrated commitments to uplifting and including women in engineering, people of color and members of LGBTQ communities. By signing this pledge, the company furthers its commitment to maintaining a promoting equity across its five businesses.
The recent NIBS meeting was a follow-up to the “Improving the Workforce of the Built Environment Through Social Equity” meeting that was held in December of 2020. Through these efforts, the National Institute of Building Sciences seeks to discuss workforce, industry sustainability, review data and best practices, and partnerships.
