Singtel Group Publishes Its Fifth Group Sustainability Report 2019

The Singtel Group Sustainability Report 2019 is the company’s fifth Group report which covers the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and sustainability strategies, initiatives and performance of its operations in Singapore and Australia for the financial year ended 31 March 2019 (FY2019).
The report provides details of the Group’s commitment to creating sustainable and long-term growth for its business, while leading and shaping positive change for its four sustainability pillars: Environment, People, Community and Marketplace and customers.
The report has been prepared in accordance with the international sustainability reporting GRI Standards: Core option and is independently assured to the International Standard on Assurance Engagements (ISAE) 3000. The report has also been mapped to key UN Sustainable Development Goals. Singtel has been a signatory of the UN Global Compact since 2007 and this report also represents the company’s annual Communication on Progress.
The Singtel Group Sustainability Report 2019 includes the following highlights:
- Year-to-date achievements of the Group’s FY2020 sustainability targets for its top material topics;
- The Group’s scorecard on key performance indicators;
- 64% reduction in the Group’s carbon emission intensity of kilowatt hour per terabyte of data transported across its network in FY2019 against baseline year FY2015;
- S$20.3 million community investment (S$11.68 million in Singapore and A$8.72 million in Australia);
- 380,000 students across Singapore and Australia reached by the company’s digital citizenship programmes since FY2016, and involved in standardisation working group of IEEE SA to establish the DQ (Digital Intelligence) framework as a global framework for digital literacy, skills and readiness;
- Launched FutureNow Innovation Centre to help enterprises accelerate their digital transformation, and continued to expand the Singtel Group Future Makers social innovation programme in support of social enterprises and their innovation to address societal issues;
- Won the SEC-STATS Asia Pacific Singapore Environmental Achievement Award 2018 in recognition of its environmental sustainability strategy; and
- Listed in 2019 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index.
Optus, Singtel Group's wholly-owned subsidiary in Australia, continues to disclose Optus’ sustainability programmes and performance on Optus website.
Optus sustainability programmes and performance highlights for FY2019 include:
- Continued to expand the company’s mentoring of Indigenous young students in partnership with KARI Foundation;
- Registered one million new postpaid customers during the year and first to market with a 5G product;
- Received the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation Award 2018 for its sustainable packaging achievements and efforts in the telecommunications sector; and
- Awarded the Australian Business and Community Network 2018 Award for the Most Outstanding Member Company.
