Sears Heroes at Home and Rebuilding Together Renovate the De George Veterans' Home in Houston
Sears Heroes at Home and Rebuilding Together have teamed up for the sixth year to improve the lives of America’s military families, including several in the Houston area.
Managed by the Housing Corp of Greater Houston, the De George in Houston, Texas provides veterans with affordable housing with no set time limit, with some in residence for as long as 10 years. The facility also provides its residents with other services such as shuttle rides to medical appointments. Over 900 veterans, ranging in ages from 27 to 84, have lived at the De George during its 13 years in operation.
The six-floor, 100-year-old building is in need of renovations and repairs. On Friday, August 23, volunteers completed these renovations, which include replacing old carpeting on five floors, replacing ceiling fans, and painting hallways, as well as collecting donated goods for residents’ use.
