ScottsMiracle-Gro Helps Shield 600,000 First Responders Across the Country

Back in April, I shared the story of how our manufacturing facility in Temecula, California had shifted its operations in the midst of COVID-19 to produce and coordinate the donation of 9,000 face shields to first responders in critical need areas across the U.S.
At the time, we were honored to play even a small role in the fight against COVID-19, but we also knew there was more work to be done.
Since then, our 130-person team in Temecula has continued to produce face shields for first responders. By our final run at the end of August, our team, led by plant manager Claudia Contreras, had produced and donated more than 600,000 face shields.
“The last several months have certainly been challenging, as we worked to not only maintain normal operations, but also fulfill our lofty goal of providing over a half million face shields to nurses, doctors, fire fighters, police officers, teachers, factory workers and more throughout the country,” Claudia explained to me. “But more than challenging, it's been incredibly gratifying because we know we are doing our part to help first responders.”
At ScottsMiracle-Gro, we continually look for new ways to GroMoreGood in our communities. Sometimes, these efforts are closely related to our gardening and growing business, like our Pollinator Promise and Water Stewardship initiatives. But, if the last several months have taught us anything, it is the importance of continuing to contribute to the common good and searching for ways to support our local communities in times of crisis.
