Sands Scores 85 out of 100 in Human Rights Campaign's 2021 Corporate Equality Index
Sands has received a score of 85 out of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s 2021 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the United States’ foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. Responding to the survey for the first time this year, Sands joins 1,142 major U.S. businesses ranked in the 2021 CEI.
While Sands had not actively worked with the HRC Foundation on the CEI survey in previous years, the company has long been committed to fostering a workplace environment that is supportive of the LGBTQ community. Our 2021 CEI performance demonstrates the breadth and effectiveness of the practices we have in place to ensure inclusiveness, access to opportunity and equal treatment for every Sands Team Member, guest visiting our properties and partner working with our company.
Through the company’s focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, Sands has established a strong foundation of policies, procedures and equitable benefits to foster an environment of inclusion and provide opportunities to help under-represented populations advance. In 2020, the company made accelerating its DEI commitment and creating awareness for these initiatives a top priority, resulting in solid performance on the index.
The results of the 2021 CEI showcase how Sands and other U.S.-based companies are not only promoting LGBTQ-friendly workplace policies in the United States, but also for the 57 percent of CEI-rated companies with global operations who are helping advance the cause of LGBTQ inclusion in workplaces globally.
The CEI rates employers providing these crucial protections to over 18 million U.S. workers and an additional 17 million outside of the country. Companies rated in the CEI include Fortune magazine’s 500 largest publicly traded businesses, American Lawyer magazine’s top 200 revenue-grossing law firms (AmLaw 200) and hundreds of publicly and privately held mid- to large-sized businesses.
The CEI rates companies on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars:
- Non-discrimination policies across business entities;
- Equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families;
- Supporting an inclusive culture; and
- Corporate social responsibility
