Sands China Care Ambassadors Distribute 350 Food Hampers to Families in Need
More than 30 Sands China Care Ambassadors volunteered at Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop to distribute 350 food hampers to disadvantaged families days before Chinese New Year.
Through Sands Cares, Las Vegas Sands global corporate giving program, Sands China Care Ambassadors are able to serve the local community by organizing community activities and initiatives that work toward creating a better Macao, including their six-year support of the Welfare Shop. The food hampers contain staple items like rice, noodles, biscuits, canned food, cooking oil, toothpaste, shower gel, bar soap, and other items. Sands China also donated MOP 300,000 ($37,248 USD) to assist families with financial hardships.
Several thousand households from disadvantaged neighborhoods have received support through the Welfare Shop’s monthly distribution since its launch in 2013 to help provide relief against the rising cost of living. Sands China has contributed a total of MOP 1.7 million ($211,072 USD) since its launch, enough to provide 1,800 food hampers.
“Sands China is pleased to offer our continued support – in both financial and human resources – to Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop, as it provides an important service to the Macao community,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “We’re pleased to see our Sands China Care Ambassadors supporting the Welfare Shop’s efforts to aid local households facing economic difficulties.”
Sands China Care Ambassadors has more than 1,600 volunteers from across all Sands China Ltd. properties, contributing close to 12,000 hours of voluntary community service in more than 50 activities in 2017.
